The VP of Engineering manages the day-to-day operations of the engineering team. VP of Engineering should know who to hire, how to successfully recruit, and manage a team that can successfully work together. VP of Engineering is the executive that grows and manages the engineering team, is responsible for assessing the time it will take to deliver features (or products), and delivering quality releases on that schedule. VP of Engineering is responsible for setting the right culture, which is critical for retaining engineering talent that would otherwise go elsewhere. VP of engineering would own the culture and the team, while also shipping quality product and giving the rest of the organization transparency into the process.
The VP of Engineering is a great manager and a great team builder. He or she will be an excellent recruiter, a great communicator, and a great issue resolver. - Build, scale, manage, and lead our high-performing, remote engineering team.
- They own the delivery of product commitments and are always looking to improve productivity. They must also coordinate across departments to accomplish collaborative goals
- Set up all the processes and organizational architecture that will allow our engineers to both grow professionally and achieve the business goals.
- Measure and improve the happiness of the Engineering team
- Drive quarterly OKRs around company goals
- Be accountable for product quality, security, and performance
- Experience creating and managing an organizational structure and best practices
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven track record of effectively interacting with senior stakeholders on cross-functional projects.
- Experience leading a team.
- Understands engineering brand, and how to create/evangelize that brand to attract top talent
- 4+ years people management experience.
- Willingness to coach and be coached.
- Technical background (SWE or equivalent). Can speak the language, communicate
and understand engineers. - Experience scaling an engineering organization (~2x+ / year), ~30 engineers.
- Experience building and coaching middle-management layer.
- Experience with remote work, ideally across time zones.
