I searched and see some discussion around Monterey Safari’s handling of new tabs, but I’m not sure any of them are quite what I’m experiencing.

Any links I click that should open in a new tab are problematic: I click the link, a new tab opens, and it shows the page for a split second (or sometimes not at all), then the tab pops back to my start page. The address bar is blank and no content from the page is shown, just my start page. I’ve fiddled with some of the new tab settings with no effect.

Has anyone else seen this?

Nice find! I actually installed Chrome until this was worked out. Fortunately a little while back someone else mentioned deleting the tab groups and recreating them – and that worked for me.

This way is easier and less “destructive” though. Thanks for sharing.

Only weird thing now is if I click the “+” to open a new tab, instead of respecting my “new tab” setting it duplicates the last tab I was on.

This worked for me. Thanks!

Just had the same problem. Anytime I clicked a link it would open in a new tab, but not load any website.

Safari (menu) >preferences>General>”new tabs open with: empty page” from drop down

Safari (menu) >preferences>General>”new windows open with: empty page” from drop down

Experiencing the same behavior also on Big Sur 11.6.

Occurs when Safari’s “New Tab Opens With” setting is “Start Page” OR “Home Page”.

Link causing me issue:

  1. Google search: blood hook imdb
  2. Open result for “Blood Hook (Short 2017) – IMDb” in new tab
