ABOUT THE ROLE
New Story is on a mission to end global homelessness! We’re looking for an ambitious, entrepreneurial leader that’s excited to take on a challenging and massively impactful opportunity.
Since New Story started in 2014, we have built over 38 communities across 4 countries resulting in over 14,000 lives impacted through safe housing via our community and home building program, what we call Direct Builds. Check out our work here and here and here.
The Impact Operations Leader owns and is responsible for our Direct Build program success and operations. Your leadership and execution will result in high-quality homes for people living within inadequate shelter and your role is to ensure New Story is achieving our Direct Build goals with integrity and excellence.
You’ll work closely with the Chief Impact Officer and Direct Builds team to execute on world class communities and homes for very low income families. From land vetting, management of our urban design contractors, to overseeing the execution of participatory workshops, designing repayment plans, and planning project timelines; no day will look the same and will be full of autonomy to innovate and grow.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Ensure completion, quality, and success of New Story’s Direct Build’s operations and goals
- Plan, manage, and communicate Direct Build funding schedule across partnerships
- Develop deep relationships with existing and prospective partners to ensure New Story achieves its home building goals each year
- Develop strategic relationships such that New Story’s home building efforts might benefit from government subsidy, land acquisition, etc.
- Identify gaps in the areas you and your team own and execute solutions to solve for those gaps
- Plan construction and household move-in timelines 6 to 12 months in advance
- Build systems to ensure the Direct Builds team is focusing on the highest value work
- Develop a deep understanding of the unit of economics of our home building and projects
- Proactively share ideas and concerns with the Executive Team
- Be relentlessly resourceful when tackling a problem
- Embody New Story’s values in all work and relationships
WHO YOU ARE
- 7+ years of relevant professional experience
- 3+ years of management experience, ideally overseeing a department (people, goals, and project budget)
- Professional fluency in both Spanish and English required
- Sophisticated communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong critical thinking skills to identify system inefficiencies, anticipate challenges and gaps, and contingency plans accordingly.

- Experience working in Mexico or El Salvador
- International Development Experience
- Knowledge of the housing sector in LATAM and the main stakeholders

- Trip to the Field. It’s amazing to meet the families we help and see the homes up close and personal. You’ll get to visit the work first hand in either Mexico, Haiti, or El Salvador.
- Team Summits. Every 6 months we have a full team summit where we have fun, reflect, and plan for the upcoming quarter. Past trips have been in Tahoe, CA and Whidbey Island, WA.
- Commuter Benefits. We’re grateful for all the time and energy each team member puts into getting to work every day. For some, getting to work takes additional time and expense because of their commute, our commuter benefits policy helps to offset that.
- Continuing Education. We believe in always learning and leveling up our skills. Whether or not it’s a conference or online course, you’ll find we invest in each team member so they can be the best at their craft.
LOCATION & COMPENSATION
This role is based in Mexico City, Mexico. We will prioritize candidates located in and/or willing to relocate to Mexico City. Our offer will be commensurate with experience. Our general range is between $50,000-65,000 USD/year.
