Just a quick rant about the crypto space, and word of advice.
I have been a user of Coinbase for over 10 years. I was involved in Bitcoin back in 2011.
I love Bitcoin for so many reasons but I think a lot of people in the space are delusional. It's been even clearer lately as I have had ridiculous issues with Coinbase.
Essentially, my account is locked because of a weird ID verification problem that seems to be caused by my account being so old. Looks like their new interface has a bug with my specific account in their database for some reason that isn't fully clear to me.
They told me they couldn't fix the bug so I needed to create a brand new account so they could transfer my balance from the old account to the new account. Alright… thanks for wasting my time. So, I did that. And now, after a month and 20 emails of back and forth, I'm being ping ponged with new agents who have ZERO context of what's happening sending me generic pre-formatted answers without ever moving the needle. So, I still don't have access to my funds.
Anyone who thinks these platforms are better than banks is insane. A real bank would not make me deal with bullshit like this for a month (and I wouldn't be surprised if it took another 2-3 months to solve this).
Point is: a technology, and a company that actually works and actively serves its customers well – is two different things altogether. The centralized financial systems have lots of issues, but banks overall do what they can to address customer problems. Coinbase is very disappointing here – being the large, famous platform that it is. I will certainly close my accounts as soon as I can access my assets and never look back. What a shame.
