Customer data is the fuel that drives all modern businesses. From product analytics, to marketing, to support, to advertising, advanced data analysis in the warehouse, and even sales – customer data is the raw material for each function at a modern business.
Harnessing that customer data getting it to the marketing and analytics tools that require it has always been a challenge….until now.
Freshpaint is a Customer Data Platform that powers the entire customer data pipeline and integrates all your tools. We make it really easy for technical teams like engineering, data, and even product to collect customer data. Then we make it really easy for business teams like product, marketing, sales, support, and more to access customer data in the tools they use day-to-day roles.
We’re based in San Francisco, and remote-heavy (even though we kind of have an office). Even though we don’t care where you’re located, we do need employees to work US timezone hours. To balance out our remote-ness, we gather the team 2-4 time per year for offsites (our last one was in Athens, Greece). We’re backed by leading investors including Y Combinator, Data Community Fund, Sunflower Ventures, Comma Capital, Pioneer Fund, Hustle Fund, and more.
Who we are:
Freshpaint was founded by early employees from Heap who noticed that the problem of collecting customer data and getting it to all the tools you need to run your business was still not solved. We started as part of Y Combinator’s S19 cohort. We launched our MVP in January 2020, and spent the rest of 2020 working with a handful of early customers to build the product. In 2021 we focused on getting our go-to-market wheels turning and scaling our customer base for the first time. Our team has deep analytics and growth experience, with all of us coming from high-growth companies like Heap, Mixpanel, Tray.io, and Gorgias.

This role will give you the opportunity to:
- As Freshpaint’s first marketer, you’ll have tremendous autonomy and execution leadership.
- Get hands on with many aspects of running a startup – you’ll get exposure to customers, sales, product, growth, and more.
- Work with highly experienced people who can help mentor you (our CEO was a marketer).
- Grow your career into multiple areas of the business depending on what you find most interesting.
- Own your own budget and try out new ideas.
What you’ll be doing:
- Work closely with our Co-founder/CEO on all things marketing at Freshpaint
- Building the foundation of Marketing @ Freshpaint. This means defining strategy, setting goals, and prioritizing a roadmap of marketing initiatives
- Build & manage a content strategy + distribution, with a primary responsibility of generating inbound leads
- Establish Freshpaint’s presence across channels at all stages of the customer’s journey
- Helping build out marketing tooling, processes and workflows
- A smattering of what this might look like:
- Focus on organic search to build landing pages
- Work with our two external content agencies to produce content
- Engage our integration partners and build a marketing strategy around partnerships.
- Work with our external advertising team to test various channels
- Organic search and backlinks, use-case based landing pages
- Help us plan and host webinars
- Own the website (this includes our messaging and positioning)
- Potentially manage our automated cold sales outbounding system (named Artemis – the Greek Goddess of “The Hunt”)
- Help support our sales team with whatever is needed to win deals
Requirements – what you’ll bring:
- You have at least 3 years of experience in marketing (or a closely related role), ideally at companies have successfully employed a hybrid SLG/PLG model.
- The ideal candidate is for someone who has worked on and led various marketing teams and is excited to build a marketing function from scratch (with 110% support from the CEO)
- You’re totally dependable with unstructured tasks and you can set your own focus/priorities.
- You get things done – fast. You take ownership and solve problems when you see them.
- Your default mode is to test a bunch of things before finding what works
- You have high empathy and a keen sense of understanding how other people think.
- You treat feedback as a gift and are not afraid of difficult conversations.

- Quick project – we’re big fans of high slope individuals, so show us/don’t tell us (1-3 hours)
- Virtual onsite with the entire go-to-market team (3-4 hours)
